Meet Bayani. His name is indigenous to Malaysia, where he lives. While some of the animals of the Wild Republic are set in their ways, Bayani is quite adaptive, eager to learn new things. Impressed with his abilities, the other animals have asked what Bayani plans to learn next. He just smiles. As they say in Asia, "The time to adjust your sandals is not while you're walking through a melon patch!"

Bayani is a Banded leaf monkey. Leaf monkeys are skilled at living in trees, with long tails to help steer and balance during acrobatic flips and leaps.

Unlike many primates, leaf monkeys have learned to eat leaves (as their name implies). So when humans began clearing their habitat, these leaf-eating monkeys were able to find food in nearby forests. Leaf monkeys are thus better able to survive the impact of humans than their fruit-eating friends.

Banded leaf monkeys primarily live in rain forests of Java, Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra. There must be a lot of leaves close by!
