Wild Republic Cactus Wren Audubon Bird with Real Calls Great news for all bird enthusiasts! Wild Republic has entered into a partnership with the National Audubon Society to create a line of realistic looking plush beanbag state birds. This partnership also includes The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, who has provided the authentic sounds for each bird to further add to the realism of these plush toys.
This Cactus Wren's call was recorded June 2, 1987 in Douglas, Arizona, USA, and was a song to defend territory and attract a mate.
This dessert bird is the state bird of Arizona and the largest of all North American wren species. Their long, curved bills effectively catch insects and small reptiles, and delicately pick cactus fruit. The sharp spines of the cactus provide a protected place for the Cactus Wren's nest and young. Males build the dome-shaped nests to which the young return even after they have fledged.
