Red diamond rattlesnakes are found from the southwestern tip of California into the Baja region. They prefer dry grassland and brush areas, where their coloring blends in well with the desert surroundings. These snakes are nocturnal, and hunt at night. As membersof the pit viper family, they have heat-sensitive pits between their nose and eyes that help them find small mammals and other prey in the dark.
